Tag Heuer Drops Tiger Woods Campaigns
As the Tiger Woods scandal intensifies in amount, and under the influence that Woods image had caused as decreases in sales, the Tag Heuer watches company decided to break loose of the contract that was signed by Woods for the endorsement purposes. The luxury sport watches declared earlier for sports news and for sports websites that the best golf player in the world will temporarily withheld consequent to the sex affairs and alcohol golf rumors that are tackling the American golfer.
Jean-Christophe Babin, Chief executive of Tag Heuer, declared on golf live TV that "The partnership with Tiger Woods will continue, but we will downscale the use of his image in certain markets for a period of time, depending on his decision about returning to professional golf."
Tag Heuer, which is an affiliate company of Louis Vuitton, earlier stated that it will back Woods up in the decision of walking away from golf clubs and from golf courses in order to watch over his family interests first.
Interviewed by “Le Matin” sports reporter (a Swiss Daily newspaper), Babin acknowledged that company is no longer in using Tiger Woods as an image for its advertising and marketing campaigns in USA; Tag Heuer looks much more interested in dealing with another figure, never denying the rumors about signing Leonardo Dicaprio.
Babin explained that the let-go of Woods is based on the golf statistics that highlighted the decrease of purchases, sales and popularity; Babin said that "We must take into account the sensitivity of some consumers in relation to recent events".
After long meetings aiming to assess the Tag Heuer relationship with Woods, the company decided to take a safe distance from the number 1 golfer in PGA Standings; last Sunday, Accenture (consultancy group) went through putting its endorsement deal with Tiger Woods golf swing to an end, not to mention that Procter and Gamble’s Gillette shaving tools, also took a step towards dropping Woods from its marketing campaigns.
Just as the Tag Heuer did in assessing the healthy relationship with Woods, it seem like US telecom giant provider AT&T is also going through the same evaluation phase as it studies the possibility of letting Woods off the affiliate marketing plan.
Woods, reported to be the wealthiest and richest sports athlete in the world with an approximate 1 billion Dollars fortune, has been subject to massive critics by the golf news papers, golf magazines and golf websites due to a lack of golf results and sex life infidelity with incoming golf rumors about wife Elin Nordegren thinking about a divorce claim.
Woods is golf, which makes him the golf icon the best golfer in the world with a chance to become the best golfer ever; Woods was taken a time out and walked from pro golf playing for the purpose of saving a marriage… hopefully.
